5 Must-Visit Stores in Bergen

Shopping can be a fun part of traveling, but to help you avoid spending hours in the same chain stores found around the world, we’ve created this guide to highlight five shops that truly stand out. These are either Bergen-based brands or Scandinavian stores, so they might be new to you. In my opinion, all five are well worth your time. I’ve included a little bit of everything. From elegant jewelry to fun, nerdy merchandise. I hope you enjoy this guide and find it helpful!

1. Maanesten

Starting the morning before work with stylish jewelry or a simple claw clip can instantly make you feel polished and refreshed. That is my go-to on slower days. It takes little effort, yet makes a big difference. Maanesten is an excellent place to find beautiful jewelry for this purpose.

When you step into their store, the first impression is of a clean and well-organized space where the layout allows each piece to stand out. The shop is located in the Galleriet shopping mall and is well worth a visit if you are looking for new jewelry. It is also a great place to find a thoughtful gift.

Maanesten is a Danish brand founded in 2010 by Lotte Callesen and Henrik Callesen, who aimed to create a spiritual jewelry label. Each piece is designed to carry a story and an energy meant for the wearer. The collections often feature motifs such as the moon, the sun, and hearts. Their designs feel both playful and modern, while also maintaining a sense of elegance and timelessness. While jewelry is their main focus, the store also offers accessories, pyjamas, laptop bags, makeup pouches, and scrunchies.

2. Blekk

Blekk is an art shop founded in 2016 by three illustrators who wanted a space to showcase their work. What began as a small initiative has since grown into a creative community of more than twenty local artists, all contributing their unique styles and ideas.

Even the outside is adorable. How can you not stop and look?

The shop is run by the artists themselves, who not only display their work but also manage the day-to-day operations. The focus is on playful, colorful, and charming art that aims to bring joy and smiles to those who visit.

Visitors can browse a wide variety of items, including buttons, stickers, t-shirts, mugs, and original illustrations. Everything is created by local designers from the surrounding area, giving the shop a distinct and personal touch.

In addition to selling artwork, the shop occasionally hosts workshops, such as painting classes for both children and adults. They also offer printing services for those who want to print their own art, and it’s possible to order custom illustrations, animations, or hand-drawn designs made by the artists themselves.

3. BRGN

BRGN is a clothing brand from Bergen specializing in rain jackets, waterproof backpacks, and other accessories. Their products combine durability and functionality with a focus on style and flattering design. Bergen is among the rainiest places in Norway, so good rainwear is essential. BRGN offers pieces in modern cuts, colors, and styles that let you stay dry while still looking well-dressed.

The store is conveniently located inside Bergen’s train station building, just a short walk from the bus station and Bergen Storsenter. In the same building, they also operate their own bistro, which is well-rated on Google and serves quality coffee, satisfying lunches, and sweet treats.

Inside the shop, there is a small play area for children, giving them a place to have fun while parents browse for the perfect rain jacket.

4. Ting

Ting means “thing” in Norwegian—and at this store, you can buy all kinds of things. Items for your kitchen, bathroom, kids, or just something fun for yourself. It’s a playful and colorful shop that’s genuinely enjoyable to browse, and it’s hard to leave without picking up at least one item.

This gift and interior store was established in Bergen in 1999. It focuses on Norwegian and Scandinavian design, featuring brands such as HAY, Ferm Living, and Muuto, among others.

Ting is a great stop for tourists. You’ll find both the usual souvenir options and a wide selection of quirky, colorful interior pieces, games, notebooks, gifts, and more.

Ting Bergen, outisde

The shop is bright and cheerful. It’s perfect for anyone who loves modern, playful design. Its location right at Bryggen makes it a convenient place to visit while sightseeing. The store is also open on Sundays, which is relatively uncommon in Norway, as most shops and malls are closed that day.

Among the wide variety of games, notebooks and other fantastic gift ideas, you’ll also find fun Norwegian souvenirs, such as these charming hair clips in the colors of the Norwegian flag!

These felt figurines, shaped like the iconic wooden houses at Bryggen, make a cute and unique souvenir that also works beautifully as home decor. The coasters shaped like Norwegian waffles are equally charming.

And have you ever seen this many rubber ducks in one place? It’s such a fun and unexpected detail.

5. Outland

Calling all nerds!

Outland is a fun and unique place to visit, perfect for anyone who loves anime, graphic novels, comics, Dungeons & Dragons, gaming, and everything in between. The store recently moved to a larger location, so it’s now quite spacious and fully accessible for wheelchair users.

Outland’s story began in 1992, when a man named Simen started collecting comics. Eventually, he began importing them from the United States to sell. In 1998, he opened his first physical location, and the very first Outland store was born. What started as a personal hobby turned into a nationwide chain of 11 stores. It also became a community hub for people with shared interests—a place to explore and enjoy a wide range of nerdy, hard-to-find items.

Outland isn’t exclusive to Bergen—there are 11 stores across Norway. Even though I usually highlight shops that are harder to find elsewhere, I wanted to include Outland because it’s such a special place. They offer an incredible selection of books, comics, graphic novels, and games. But that’s not all. You’ll also find clothing with designs inspired by comics and films, all kinds of LEGO sets, mugs, keychains, and a variety of snacks and drinks from other countries that are hard to come by in Norway.

Since comics aren’t widely available in most Norwegian bookstores, this is the best place to pick up the latest volume of your favorite series.

Outland Bergen

The store is packed with all kinds of merchandise, and they sometimes set up tables where customers can sit and play board games or join other activities.

Whenever I’m looking for a new fantasy or horror book, this is where I go. While Ark and Norli are great bookstores, their selection in these genres is usually quite limited. In my experience, Outland offers a much broader range of horror and fantasy titles. I also come here for graphic novels because of their excellent selection.

Browsing this store is a real pleasure, especially if you have a specific hobby. Whether you’re looking for a cool new set of dice, merchandise from your favorite game or movie, or just something fun and different, Outland is the place to find it. The staff are usually very passionate about what they sell, so they’re great at making recommendations and helping you find what you’re looking for.

These five stores each offer something unique and special, and we hope you found this shopping guide helpful. If you’re looking for even more recommendations, we have a previous post featuring five other stores. They’re all colorful, quirky, and full of charm, so if you enjoyed this guide, we highly recommend checking that one out as well. You can find it here.
